Tar Hollow is located about 10 miles east of Chillicothe.
To get there, take Pickerington Road south 8.9 miles
to Winchester Pike (having crossed Route 33).
Turn right on Winchester Pike and go 0.5 miles
to Benadum Road. Turn left on Benadum and curve
your way 1.2 miles until its end.
Turn left onto Amanda Northern Road.
Take Amanda Northern Road south 10.0 miles to
where it crosses Route 22. Cross Route 22
and go through the town of Amanda. At 1.5 miles,
you will meet up with Route 159. Turn right
and take Route 159 6.8 miles to Tarlton.
In Tarlton, at the 4-way stop sign, Route 159
heads off to the right. Instead, continue
straight—this is now Tarlton Adelphia Road.
Take Tartlon Adelphia Road south 3.8 miles,
to the 4-way stop for Route 56. Turn left
onto Route 56, and go 2.4 miles to Route 180.
Turn right onto Route 180, and follow it for
0.6 miles. At the 4-way stop sign, Route 180
heads off to the right, and Route 372 begins
by going straight. Take Route 372.
Follow Route 372 south for 7.3 miles. At this
point you will see the entrance to Tar Hollow
State Park on your right. Continue past this
entrance another 2.1 miles, to the entrance
for Tar Hollow State Forest (Clark Hollow Road).
Turn right and go 0.7 miles to the parking
lot on your left.
The Amanda Bypass
To bypass Amanda (this route is quicker, but trickier),
shortly before Amanda the road makes a sharp left
bend. At this point is a large sign that says
Ruffs. Instead turn right onto Ruff Rd.
Take this 0.8 miles to where it dead ends on
Ridge Rd. Turn right, go 0.2 miles, and take the
next left, onto Leist Rd. Take Leist Rd to
where it dead ends at Rte 22 (1.1 miles).
Turn right onto Rte 22, go 0.5 miles and turn
left onto Sixteenth Rd.
Take Sixteenth Rd. 6.5 miles into Tarlton, where it
hits Rte 159. Turn left, go two blocks to the
stop sign, and then turn right onto Tarlton Adelphi Rd.
You have now rejoined the regular route.
